       1. Preparation

  • Tools and Materials Needed:

    • Copper clad steel earth rods (threaded or plain)

    • Driving head (or driving stud)

    • Coupling (for extending rods)

    • Hammer or power driver (manual, electric, or pneumatic)

    • Earth resistance tester

    • Ground enhancement material (optional, e.g., bentonite or conductive cement)

  • Site Check:

    2. Installation Procedure

    • Identify the location for grounding — ideally a moist, low-resistance soil area.

    • Avoid areas with rocks, debris, or underground utilities.

    • Verify soil resistivity if precise grounding resistance is required.

    • Step 1: Connect Driving Head

    • Attach the driving head to the top of the first rod to protect the copper surface during driving.

    • If threaded rods are used, screw the coupling onto the bottom end of the next rod for extension.

    • Step 2: Drive the First Rod

    • Drive the rod vertically into the ground using a hammer or mechanical driver.

    • Ensure the rod remains straight — crooked installation can reduce conductivity and mechanical stability.

    • When the first rod is nearly flush with the ground, unscrew the driving head, attach a coupling, and screw in the next rod.

    • Continue driving additional rods until the desired depth or resistance is achieved (typically 2–6 meters).

      Step 3: Extend the Rod

    • When the first rod is nearly flush with the ground, unscrew the driving head, attach a coupling, and screw in the next rod.

    • Continue driving additional rods until the desired depth or resistance is achieved (typically 2–6 meters).

    • Step 4: Finish and Connect

    • Leave approximately 100–200 mm of the rod above ground for connection.

    • Attach the grounding conductor (copper tape, cable, or wire) using:

      • Clamps

      • Exothermic welding

      • Compression connectors
